Free content and DLC coming to WipEout 2048
Early adopters of the PlayStation Vita who are currently enjoying Studio Liverpool’s WipEout 2048 can also look forward to a wealth of extra content—some of it free—according to lead designer Karl Jones.
“We’re looking into other things to enhance the toolset of the game. So we’re looking on to custom controls, and potentially some kind of multiplayer extension,” he said while speaking with the Official PlayStation Magazine.
Although unwilling to divulge specifics, Jones said some of the things on the horizon for WipEout 2048 include expanded support for Cross Play, lots of free content patches, and “bigger stuff” that will be connected directly to DLC.
He also said that, while the PlayStation Vita racer didn’t hit retail with all the features Studio Liverpool wanted to add, a portion of the development team are working to bring them to the fore post-release.
“New features are going to be added, new ways to play,” he said. “I can’t really talk about that now but the AR museum is a good example. We’ve shown it, it is coming, we just didn’t have time to get it nailed before release.”
“Deadlines are strict, you’ve got to hit your dates, but there’s so much stuff that developers want to get into their games that some stuff got to get cut,” he added.
“The beauty of it now is that’s it’s not always cut forever. There’s DLC but there’s also free stuff you can patch in, stuff that’s 90% finished before launch that needs that extra 10%, you can release that stuff for free.”
The current best-selling PlayStation Vita release is Uncharted: Golden Abyss, which hit the UK All-Formats chart in top spot. WipEout 2048 placed at 11th on GfK Chart-Track’s official weekly listing.
