Confirmed: Diablo console project in development
Following on from rumors regarding a spate of ‘console opportunity’ job vacancies posted by software developer Blizzard, it has now been confirmed that longstanding PC property Diablo is indeed being prepped for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
“Yup. Josh Mosqueira is lead designer for the Diablo console project,” revealed Blizzard online community manager ‘Bashiok’, when asked to either confirm or deny Diablo’s migration from PC.
Of course, the words “Diablo project” are key in the above statement, at least insofar as Blizzard’s focus could be on porting over its latest Diablo 3 creation, or perhaps first cobbling a console-ready pack of older Diablo properties.
Regardless, we here at The Gaming Herald have been hoping to see Diablo shift onto consoles for some time, but we didn’t really think it would ever happen.
Not that we’re complaining, of course, just as long as Blizzard is able to somehow tackle that age-old problem of crafting a user-friendly console interface that intuitively allows for the loss of keyboard input.
The long-awaited Diablo 3 is presently in beta (invitation only) ahead of a somewhat non-committal “early 2012” retail release.
